Challenge Inspiration: Holly & Sara!

Holly here sharing my last post as a member of TPV design team...sigh.    For this challenge, I'm sharing an altered 8 x 10 picture frame that I made for a girlfriend who recently turned the Big Four-Oh!  Since 40's a special birthday, I wanted her gift to be clean, simple and went well with her home decor.  I originally got this idea from another design team member of mine,  Liz at Liz's Paper Loft.

To make this monogrammed frame, I covered a piece of 8 x 10 cardboard with burlap fabric (I heart burlap!) hot glued flowers cut from Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge at 4 inches, inked the edges with silver fluid chalk and then added a rhinestone center.  I just love the way this turned out!

I love creating packaging with my paper craft supplies.  I used a little kraft box and embellished it up with a doilies some punches and twine and now its ready for gift giving!  I also took a mini little paper bag and decorated it for the Holidays to hold a gift card!  You never know when you will need to give a gift so I like to be prepared!

 

Tutorial: Paper Cone Wreath by Holly!

Holly here today with a tutorial on how to make Paper Cone Wreaths. I love these wreath 'cause they're bold, make a statement and are super easy and make!

Gorgeous papers, right?   The papers are from the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Kit by American Craft that Cassie from Paper Issues sold through her Paper Shop.   Love these papers, it was hard to cut them up.....sigh....but totally worth it don't ya think?

Supplies Needed:

Hot Glue Gun

8-12x12 sheets of double sided pattern paper

Liquid chalk or ink

1-12 inch cardboard circle

Cut patterned paper into 6x6 inch squares.   Roll them into cones and hot glue together. You'll need to make approximately 17 cones for a 12" wreath. Ink the edges of the cone as desired.

Pencil a circle template in the center of the the cardboard to use as a guide. Hot glue the cones on the cardboard following your template lines.

For the wreath's second layer, cut  patterned paper into 4x6 inch pieces. Roll them into cones and hot glue together. You'll need to make approximately 17 cones also for the second layer. Ink the edges of the cone as desired.

Hot glue the 4x6 cones to cover the gaps between the first cone layer.

Ahhhh....now Smile at your creation!

For the center of the wreath, I added an 8 inch scallop circle and shadow cut from Cricut Elegant Edges and used a sentiment from Gypsy Wanderings cut at 3.35 inches.   I laced Hug Snug seam binding ribbon throughout the scallop circle and stuck in a couple of cute leaf stick pins. These fun embellishments also came from the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan kit. So Yummy!

Challenge Inspiration: Holly & Sara!

This past January we took a trip to the Grand Canyon via train.  The weather was bitter cold and equally miserable for the adults yet it didn't seem to bother the kids.  I mean, who doesn't want to climb trees in the dead of winter and eat fresh icicles? 

For this layout, I stuck to the sketch by cutting strips of ribbon and crimped blue card stock into flag banners. The sentiment frame is cut from Cricut Storybook and I chose a sentiment from K. Andrew Designs Winter Wishes stamps.  The layout title font is cut from Cricut Birthday Cakes at 1.5 inches.  You can visit my blog at Ribbons & Glue.

Now, doesn't this just make you miss all the fun of Winter?

Challenge Inspiration: Holly & Sara!

Handmade flowers are fun to make and the options are really endless.  That seems to be the hardest part, figuring out what type of flower to make! 

For this challenge,  I decided to make a gift bag from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More and I added a spiral flower cut from Art Philosophy.    Lately, I've been totally into using Jute and Burlap so I had to add some to this project by using jute twine for a handle and tying it all together with a jute bow.

I love making paper flowers! I choose to make this flower from the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.  This is a spiraled paper flower that you just roll up tight from the middle out an then let it go!  Add a bit of hot glue and you have a beautiful flower ever time!  This was the perfect accent on this gift bag.

Tutorial: Vellum votives by Holly!

Holly here today with a tutorial on using vellum to decorate votive candles.  I'm sharing a few candle designs with you that could be used as decorations for a wedding, baby shower, garden party or home decor.

Here's the supplies I used:

Various clear votive candle holders

Score Board

Colored Vellum

Double Sided Tape

Decorative Stamps and ink

Border punch

Liquid Pearls

Ribbon & Jute Twine

Embossing folder

 To decorate the large candle, I stamped two pieces of 4 x 11 inch vellum with decorative stamps.

I then scored the vellum at 1/2 inches and adhered the two pieces together like you would to make a rosette. Use double side tape to adhere the vellum around the candle.

Another way to decorate a votive is to use a border punch along a strip of vellum. 

You can embellish your votive's anyway your like.  I added some liquid pearls and a ribbon bow around one and then added some white vellum flowers cut from Flower Shoppe to another.

To decorate a square votive, I used embossed vellum. 

I embossed  4- 2 1/2 inch squares of vellum and then adhered them to the sides of the votive.

Challenge Inspiration: Holly & Sara!

What a fun challenge this was to "Scraplift" a project created by my fellow design team members.  As you already know, these ladies are super talented and they've given me so many ideas over the past few months that I've actually made 4 other projects (make this 5 now) using there tutorial's. Yep- they do Inspire!  You can check there inspiration on my blog  Ribbons & Glue. 

For this challenge I made a flower pot card inspired by Sandi's Button Flower tutorial.  I hoard  have jars and jars of buttons so I knew these button flowers would be a perfect addition to my card. 

The base flowers are cut and layered from George and the Flower Shoppe cartridges.  I used a 1.5" scallop circle cut from Alphalicious for the base of the flower button and the leaves are cut from Doodlecharms. 

We look forward to seeing you link up your projects inspired by TPV design team, I know I have some more ideas I want to try.

We all need inspiration from some place, thats what I love about this challenge!  I was inspired my partner here at TPV, Holly!  Holly made the most incredible star decorations on her very first post here  - you can see them HERE.

My son has a space them to his bedroom so I knew just wanted I wanted to make and this challenge made me do it!

Challenge Inspiration: Holly & Sara!

Today I have a card and coordinating envelope set to share with you.  I was lucky enough to choose a stamp set from Paper and Such to work with when creating this card.  I loved this chicken wire stamp set!

I was able to use this stamp to create a great back ground on both the card and envelope. Then using up some of scrap paper and stash of embellishments I finished the card off!

   I'm so loving these Bitty Love Stamps from Paper and Such!  What a perfect set of stamps these are for teachers to use or to make little note cards to give as teacher gifts.   I just love them!

These little cards measure at 3 x 3 inches.  I embossed primary cardstock with various textures, stamped each sentiment and gave them some color highlights with markers.

Whenever I send out cards, I like include a matching envelope.  The envelopes are cut from Wild Card at 4 inches and I added a patterned paper liner and stamped each coordinating stamp on the outside of the envelope. 

Thanks for Paper and Such for giving the design team the privilege of choosing and designing with there stamps.  I know I will be using this stamp set for many years to come. 

Tutorial: Glitter and twine embellishments using the Xyron by Holly!

Hello, It's Holly from Ribbons & Glue sharing with you a few reasons why I like to use this 1.5 inch  Xyron.  This little " X-thingy" is  marketed as an Create-A-Sticker tool but instead of using it to make stickers, I've found the adhesive very useful towards making embellishments. 

Like:

*adhering glitter evenly without making a mess on your project.

* adhering delicate or sheer ribbon so you can't see your tape/glue application.

*useful in making twine embellishments.

Every crafter has various techniques or adhesives they choose to use but I like using this small Xyron because I know I can get an even application of adhesive every time.

First step,  run your die cut face down (which is the side of the adhesive)  through the Xyron.  Rub well to active the adhesive then peel off the backing. 

I'm going to add glitter to the word Baby for my project. These letters are cut at 1 inch so I'd consider it small size for glitter application. 

For my finished project, I used crystal glitter but you can't see it in the photo, so in this example, I used dark blue glitter.  After you shake off the excess glitter, you can see how the glitter sticks really well, evenly covered and is dry, unlike using glue.

Another fun embellishment I've made using a Xyron are these twine buttons. 

To make these twine buttons, I run my circle through the Xyron, cover the adhesive side with small pieces of twine, trim off the excess twine then ink the edges. 

The Xyron adhesive works well too for adhering sheer ribbon.   Just run it through, rub, peel and stick!  Thanks for looking and I hope this little X-thingy is inspiring to you.

Challenge Inspiration: Sara & Holly!

It was so fun to create with this sketch and the journaling prompt! I had been meaning to scrap this photo of Harry Potter, I mean my son Cole :) for some time now.  I was able to put it together with this double challenge and this wonderful collection, Old School from Pink Paisley.

It's Holly from Ribbons & Glue sharing my take on our Sketch along with Scrap Fit Challenge.  My numerical list includes the things I love about my kids.

I haven't created many layouts in last 2 years so I found myself blowing the dust off a vellum sentiment that went along with my numerical list.   I kept the layout simple by using ribbon, buttons, glimmer mist and burlap.   The background paper is from Fancy Pants and I tore Core-dinations paper to use as a photo mat boarder.   I also have to mention that I made this entire layout without using my Cricut, now that's a rare occurrence for me!
