Hello, everybody! My name is Mel, and I’m thrilled to be guest designing for The Paper Variety. Almost ten years ago, I married my first love, and the first scrapbooking project I did was a simply embellished photo album of wedding pictures. Playing with pretty papers and all kinds of other goodies has been my passion ever since, though I’ve been a big fan of craftiness most of my life. Just recently, I started a brand new blog called LaLa Creates where I share my zest for all things creative and celebrate all kinds of inspiration. I hope you’ll drop by for a visit.
As I was scrolling through all the yummy projects on The Paper Variety, a lovely page by Caroli caught my eye, especially since I had the perfect 5x7 photo of me and my father that I’ve been planning to scrapbook for awhile. More simple and linear designs always appeal to me, so this one was right up my alley. For my page, I matted my photo with patterned paper coordinating with the papers I used to create the banners, and I chose a chipboard element to replace the adorable little flags Caroli used in hers. I also “sprinkled” gems instead of splattering ink, and I added a bit of glitter and shimmery ink for some shine. My journaling is right above the photo and simply reads, “Me and My Daddy, 10-12-2002.” What a fun challenge! Thanks to everyone here at The Paper Variety for always providing such great tutorials and projects to inspire us!
